Scope of Program:
Graphic Design students at University of Wisconsin – Whitewater complete the Art Foundations program, which includes courses in 2D and 3D foundations, drawing, modern and contemporary art and art history. They must pass a portfolio review in order to be admitted to the major and pass a second portfolio review during their junior year. Students continue with coursework in photography, sculpture, drawing, painting, printmaking, typography, print media, web media, illustration, interactive media design, electronic illustration and visual design for the web. All students create a senior show.
Media Arts and Game Design students may choose the concentration in Communication / Gaming, Technology, or Visual Media Design. Students in all three concentrations complete core coursework in Flash development, media arts and game development, web development, visual imaging for digital media and drawing for digital media. Communication/ Gaming students focus on video and audio production, sound and image, MIDI techniques, corporate and industry video, advanced video game development and social media options. All students complete two team projects.
Technology students concentrate on C++ programming, artificial intelligence, graphics programming and game engine / modding. All students complete two team projects.
Visual Media Design students complete coursework in digital photography, visual design for the web, motion graphics, interactive media, 3D modeling, advanced web design and advanced digital photography. All students complete two team projects.
Minnesota students may be eligible for tuition discounts. Graphic arts, merit and need-based scholarships are available. Wisconsin residents are encouraged to apply for state-sponsored grants and scholarships.
