Scope of Program:
The University of Texas at Dallas offers two innovative programs for students interested in art, technology and new media. Bachelor's degree candidates in the Arts and Technology program complete core coursework in drawing, 2D design, topics in arts and technology, design principles, computer imaging and computer science, then continue with courses in project management, animation, digital design, game design, sound design, web design, business and digital arts, computer animation and modeling and texturing. All students create a capstone project.
Bachelor's degree candidates in the Emerging Media and Communication program focus on writing and research for new media, electronic and digital communications, computer imaging, sound design, emergent media and mass communications, digital writing, internet studio, design principles and practices and human-computer interaction. All students create a capstone project.
M. A. and M. F. A. candidates in the Arts and Technology program concentrate on aesthetics of interactive arts, advanced project workshop, event design, interdisciplinary approaches to arts and technology, game design, interactive art, digital cinematography, animation production lab, games to gallery and immersive environments. Ph. D. candidates complete coursework in interdisciplinary research in arts and technology, science and technology in Western culture, game design and digital arts in preparation for researching and writing their dissertations.
M. A. candidates in the Emerging Media and Communication program take courses in writing for interactive media, emerging media studio, approaches to emerging media and communication, digital textuality, community media and advanced projects workshop.
A portfolio is required with the application to the M. F. A. and Ph. D. programs. Arts and Technology departmental scholarships are available. Texas residents are encouraged to apply for state-sponsored grants and scholarships.
