Scope of Program:
B. F. A. candidates in The University of Texas at Austin's Design program begin their studies as Studio Art majors. They may apply to the Design program during their sophomore year. Students complete foundation courses in drawing, time-based art and 2D and 3D design. They continue with coursework in design technologies, design history laboratory, visual syntax in communication, design theory and methodology, images in communication, design systems, design perspectives and design and persuasion. All students complete a design practicum and create a senior project.
M. F. A. candidates in Design complete a core course in design and continue with core laboratory, critique studio and advanced issues in design. All students complete a Master's Report (written project and portfolio) and create a Master's exhibit.
The University of Texas at Austin accepts the Texas Common Application. A portfolio is required with the application to the B. F. A. and M. F. A. programs. Art, merit and need-based scholarships are available, as are teaching assistantships. Nonresident graduate tuition waivers are also available.
