Scope of Program:
The University of Southern California's highly-regarded School of Cinematic Arts offers students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with state-of-the-art equipment. Animation and Digital Arts students concentrate on art of animation, digital animation, 3D animation, ideation, visual effects and computer animation. A senior project is required, and students must complete either an internship or directed research. Students choose an area of concentration in consultation with their advisors. Interactive Entertainment students take courses in computer programming, cinema technique, game development and design, 3D animation, visual design and sound design for games and advanced game programming.
M. F. A. candidates in USC's three-year Animation and Digital Arts program concentrate on fieldwork and animation production. Internships are available. A thesis is required. This program accepts about 14 candidates per year. Interactive Media M. F. A. candidates also study for three years. They study computer programming as well as topics in interactive media design and development. An advanced interactive project is required.
USC offers limited scholarships for freshmen; there are many merit- and need-based scholarships available for continuing students. Applicants to the Animation and Digital Arts and Interactive Entertainment programs must submit a portfolio.
