Scope of Program:
The University of North Carolina School of the Arts offers a B. F. A. program in addition to its high school and graduate arts programs. Students wishing to major in Animation must apply to the program and pass a portfolio review at the end of their first year of study. All students begin their programs with coursework in critical perspectives, art history and digital media for the artist. Animation students concentrate on production design and animation, directing, picture editing, sound design, screenwriting, animation and film history, animation foundations, intensive arts, perspective drawing and 2D sequential imaging. All students create an animation thesis project.
An interview and artistic statement are required for admission to the major. All students must purchase an Apple MacBook Pro laptop computer. Freshmen and sophomores are required to live in campus-provided housing. All students must pass yearly portfolio reviews and safety exams. Talent and need-based scholarships are available. North Carolina residents may apply for state-funded scholarships and grants.
