Tuition Information: Undergraduate residents $11,650, nonresidents $16,650; graduate residents $15,850, nonresidents $22,382 for the 2011 – 2012 school year. Tuition does not include fees of $1,116 per year. Students from North Dakota, South Dakota, Wisconsin and Manitoba are eligible for tuition reciprocity, which allows them to pay in-state tuition rates. Reciprocity students must re-apply for tuition discounts each year.

Scope of Program:
Art students in the University of Minnesota's B. F. A. program must take prerequisite courses in visual arts, drawing, 2D and 3D studio, art history and media arts. Art students may select a studio emphasis; B. F. A. candidates interested in new media and animation focus on sound art, animation, experimental video, digital imaging, advanced drawing and digital media. Students must also complete coursework in foreign language, critical theory and concepts and practices in art. Students complete an internship and create a B. F. A. exhibition.
Graphic Design students must complete pre-major courses in design thinking, drawing and design, color and design and The Graphic Studio and pass a portfolio review in order to be admitted to the major. Upon acceptance, students concentrate on photography, drawing, illustration, typography, digital composition, text and image, color and form, identity and symbol, packaging, integrative campaigns, and portfolio development. Students must take one art or architecture history course, one history course and one business course. All Graphic Design students complete an internship and senior seminar.
Time and Interactivity / Experimental and Media Arts M. F. A. candidates complete coursework in contemporary art, time and interactivity, art history and studio critiques. All students must participate in graduate seminars and pass annual reviews. M. F. A. candidates complete a creative thesis and present a thesis exhibition.
Scholarships, graduate assistantships and fellowships are available. Art students may apply for need-based and merit scholarships offered by the College of Liberal Arts, while Graphic Design students may apply for similar scholarships offered by the College of Design.
