Scope of Program:
Art & Design students at the University of Michigan may choose either the B. A. or B. F. A. program. Students begin their program by participating in eight core studio courses, including concept, form and context, tools, materials and processes, drawing and digital studio. While the University of Michigan's Art & Design department does not offer concentrations in specific studio areas, students may personalize a program to emphasize graphic design, digital arts or another area of interest. All students must participate in an end-of-year review during the second year of study and a mid-year critique during creation of the final Integrative (capstone) Project. Independent study opportunities and internships are available.
The University of Michigan offers need-based and merit scholarships. Applicants to the B. A. and B. F. A. programs in Art & Design must submit a portfolio. B. F. A. candidates must participate in one of the university's many international study opportunities. Some courses in the Art & Design department require students to have a wireless laptop computer.
