Scope of Program:
The University of Louisville's B. F. A. program accepts students in three different ways. Students may take departmental foundation courses in drawing, 2D design and 3D design, then apply to the Communication Art and Design major while taking Introduction to Graphic Design. Alternatively, students may request the Communication Art and Design major when applying as a Guaranteed Early Admission candidate. Transfer students' applications must be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
Communication Art and Design students concentrate on letter forms, web design, book forms, identity systems, packaging, design for public issues and video production. Internships and co-ops are available. Students create a portfolio and must pass a portfolio review in order to graduate.
Master's degree candidates take courses in art history and modern perspective in visual arts and participate in graduate seminars. Students must create a thesis exhibition and pass oral examinations and a portfolio review to graduate.
Applicants to the University of Louisville's B. F. A. and M. A. programs must submit a portfolio and Art Department application form along with their university applications. Art Department scholarships are available, as are need-based and merit scholarships.
