Scope of Program:
The University of Georgia offers undergraduate Art students the opportunity to concentrate in diverse areas, including Art X: Expanded Forms and Graphic Design, as well as to earn a certificate in New Media. Art X students take core classes in drawing, color/composition, and/or 3D modeling, then focus on a variety of "expanded forms," including transmedia, hypermedia, net art, e-gadgets for experimental media and interactive art. Graphic Design students focus on design drawing, electronic design, typography, layout, illustration, photography, 3D graphic design, informational graphics and special topics. Students complete a portfolio project as part of the Graphic Design program. The New Media Interdisciplinary Certificate program is open to undergraduate and graduate students, who study new media production, design and technologies, rich media production, special topics in new media and directed study. Students complete a capstone project in the new media industry.
M. F. A. candidates in Dramatic Media Production concentrate on computer animation, interactive multimedia and live performance, history of cinema, directing and dramatic media seminars. All candidates must pass a proficiency examination after the first year of study and a comprehensive examination after the second year of study as well as complete a thesis project.
Undergraduate Art students must pass a portfolio review to be admitted to the major. Graduate students must submit a portfolio and résumé with the application. Scholarships, including art department scholarships, are available. Residents of Georgia are encouraged to apply for the HOPE Scholarship.
