Scope of Program:
Students in the University of Cincinnati’s Electronic Art program begin their studies with foundation coursework in drawing, space, surface, current arts, contemporary art and visual art concepts. They continue with coursework in 2D and 3D design, art history, professional practices and media studio, then focus on internet art, animation art, sound art, interactive media, programming for artists, new media and game art. All students create a senior thesis and senior show.
The University of Cincinnati’s Graphic Communications Design program takes five years to complete due to required cooperative learning experiences, which are an integral part of the program. Students complete foundation courses in drawing, 2D and 3D design, art history and modern design. They concentrate on design aesthetics, typography, design ideation, photo design, print design, kinetic communication, interactive design, time-based design, design systems and design methodologies. All students must complete cooperative learning experiences. If they wish, students may focus on print design, time-based design or interactive design.
M. F. A. candidates in Fine Art participate in Electronic Art studios, critiques and seminars during their two-year program. All students create a thesis.
Master of Design in Visualization students participate in design studios, research labs and design seminars. All students create a thesis.
A portfolio is required with the application to the B. F. A. and M. F. A. programs. All B. F. A. candidates must purchase a laptop computer. Master of Design applicants must submit a portfolio and have at least two years of professional design practice or design teaching experience. Merit and need-based scholarships are available. M. F. A. candidates may apply for teaching assistantships and graduate assistantships.
