Scope of Program:
University of California, San Diego is divided into six colleges, each of which has a different focus and set of graduation requirements. Students select a college as well as a major. All undergraduate majors except Individual Major are available to students in any college.
Interdisciplinary Computing in the Arts students focus on computer science and visual arts coursework, including digital imaging, digital media, electronic technology for art, calculus, JAVA, audio production and art and technology history. A senior project is required. Media students concentrate on media, digital photography, structure of art, art making and media sketchbook. Students choose from three emphases: Computing, Photography or Video and Digital Cinema. An honors program is available to Media students.
Portfolios are not required for admission. Applicants from outside California must have a minimum grade point average of 3.40 on a 4.0 scale. Merit and need-based scholarships are available, although merit scholarships' awards are relatively small (around $2,000 per year). UCSD Extension offers one-year Digital Arts programs and certificates in Casual Gaming, Graphic Design and Design Media.
