Vermont is home to a large number of top-tier colleges. The University of Vermont, Champlain College, Norwich University, Saint Michaels College, and Middlebury College are just a few. These schools belong to a coveted collection of fine Title IV degree-granting institutions.
To earn Title IV status, each school must meet five requirements established by the U.S. Department of Education. Title IV schools must (1) have accreditation recognized by the U.S. Department of Education, (2) offer a program of at least 300 clock hours in length (3) be in business for at least 2 years, (4) grant an associate's degree or higher, and (5) sign a participation agreement with the Department. Once a school has Title IV status, it becomes eligible for federal financial aid programs. This makes them more accessible to students with financial need.
Having Title IV status is only one reason many Vermont schools made the list of top schools. In addition to having Title IV status, these schools are competitive, they have excellent job placement services, and they offer a wide variety of academic programs. Top schools also offer a variety of social clubs and organizations, comfortable class sizes, and they usually offer easy access to major cities.
