1. University of North Dakota, Grand Forks, North Dakota
Founded in 1883, University of North Dakota (UND) is the state’s oldest and largest university. The school serves nearly 14,000 students enrolled in 225 programs through nine colleges and schools. The College of Engineering & Mines houses the School of Electrical Engineering & Computer Science (SEECS), which serves more than 450 students through a variety of undergraduate and graduate programs, both on-campus and online. Program options for aspiring game designers include BS and MS degrees in Data Science.
Per the SEECS, students may tailor the Data Science Program to their individual interests “when taken in concert” with four Specializations offered by the UND Computer Science Department. Options include Game Development and Computer Animation, System and Programming Security, Software Engineering, and Information Technology.
Sample courses for the programs include Computer Science, Algorithms and Data Structures, Artificial Intelligence, Advanced Programming Languages, Digital Electronics Laboratory, Social Implications of Computer Technology, and Concurrent and Distributed Programming.
Other highlights include Special Projects in Computer Science, the Senior Project, and opportunities to participate in research projects and cooperative education and seminars, as well as working for outside organizations, including corporations.
