
According to the latest figures released by the Institute of Education Sciences (IES), New Hampshire is now home to 29 accredited colleges and universities. Many of these schools are on the list of the nation’s top schools. Fortunately, several offer top-tier art and design programs, with one standout for aspiring game designers & developers. Southern New Hampshire University made the list of top schools for game designers & developers based on a number of factors such as quality of production facilities, job placement services, student body, types of social programs, student life, access to recreational opportunities, the admissions process, convenience, cost, and more.
Southern New Hampshire University offers a Bachelor of Arts (B. A.) in Business Studies/Game Design and Development, Graphic Design and Media Arts, and Computer Information Technology/Game Design and Development. Students interested in a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) also have the option of enrolling in Business Studies/Game Design and Development, Graphic Design and Media Arts, and Computer Information Technology/Game Design and Development. These unique degrees prepare students to do more than design and develop games. They teach students how to start a business or the skills they need to succeed in high-tech environments within and outside of the gaming industry.
Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) is located on a 300-acre campus on the banks of the Merrimack River in Manchester. The school offers 60 undergraduate and graduate programs in education, business, community economic development, hospitality, culinary arts, and liberal arts. Programs are offered on campus, at multiple SNHU centers in New Hampshire and Maine, and online. Game Development and Supporting Technologies, Psychology and Marketing of Games, Interactive Storytelling and Supporting Arts, and Game Production and the Business of Gaming programs are offered online only. SNHU also offers a Master of Science in Information Technology/Game Design and Development (online).
If you’re interested in attending SNHU, you can expect to pay around $27,720 for undergraduate programs for the 2011-2012 school year. According to the SNHU website, most SNHU master's degrees require between 36 and 42 credit hours. Average tuition for a SNHU master’s degree is $21,924 - $25,578. Courses are $1,827 ($609 per credit hour). Fortunately, SNHU is a Title IV school, so students will have access to a number of federal financial aid programs.
