Founded in 1968 as Wilmington College, Wilmington University (WilmU) serves more than 20,000 students enrolled in more than 150 degree and certificate programs. The College of Technology offers two several programs for aspiring animators including AS and BS degrees in Media Design and a BS in Video & Motion Graphics. Students in the Media Design programs will study animation and video, filming and editing, digital image manipulation, and basic design.
Sample courses include Fundamentals of Motion Graphics, Interactive Multimedia Web, Introduction to Audio, Non-Linear Editing Mac, The Production Process, and User Centered Design. Students in the program will also have the opportunity to refine the degree through design and free electives.
The BS In Video & Motion Graphics has three specialized concentrations: Digital Film-Making, Motion Graphics and 3D, and Visual Effects (VFX). Per the school, students will “explore real-world production concepts under the direction of expert faculty with extensive field experience and gain additional skills in graphic design, animation, compositing, and sound.” Course highlights include Aesthetics in Film, Advanced Motion Graphics, Character Creation and Texturing, Character Rigging, Fundamentals of Motion Graphics, Introduction to Compositing for Visual Effects, Introduction to 3D, 3D Modeling Techniques, 3D Texture, Rendering and Lighting Techniques, and Vector Drawing.
Students will complete an Advanced Compositing Workshop, as well as the Video Motion Graphics Senior Project, and the Video Graphics Internship. As an alternative, the Senior Project and Internship may be completed as a co-op. Each co-op assignment is one semester long and normally the two co-op assignments span two consecutive semesters with the same employer.
