1. University of Alaska Fairbanks, Fairbanks, Alaska
Founded in 1917, University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) serves more than 8,500 students across seven campuses in the state. The school offers more than 170 programs through nine colleges and schools. The College of Liberal Arts houses the Department of Theatre and Film, which offers a BFA-Computer Art Studio.
The program offers undergraduate courses in 3-D Animation, Digital Video and Digital Photography and graduate level courses in 3-D Animation and Digital Design. Students have the option to choose a focus within Digital Art including 3D Animation, Installation Art, Digital Illustrations, and many others.
Other program highlights include access to a variety of courses from both the Journalism and Film departments, access to computer classrooms in the Fine Arts Complex and the Geophysical Institute, art exhibitions and special events, and Fairbanks Summer Arts Festival. Graduates of the program are prepared to seek positions in fields such as entertainment, advertising, fine art, marketing and others. Graduates are also prepared for entry into UAF’s master’s degree program.
The school’s three-year MFA in Studio Art offers a Concentration in Computer Art. Program highlights include summer semester courses consisting of outdoor painting in various remote locations in Alaska, regular studio courses, and public lectures and workshops by visiting artists.
