The University of Montana (UM) was founded in 1893. The school serves more than 11,000 students enrolled in dozens of degrees and majors through 13 colleges and schools. The College of Visual & Performing Arts, School of Media Arts offers a BFA in Media Arts with a Digital Arts & Technology Track. The program also consists of an “advising track” in Animation & Interactive Media or Digital Animation that, according to the school, focuses on 3D modeling, character animation, motion capture, character rigging, texture and lighting, compositing, etc.
Finishing classes in surface texturing, rendering, dynamics, particles and MEL scripting will combine all that students have learned into an Animation & Interactive Media portfolio that will demonstrate their ability to create professional quality assets for film, television, video games, and more.
Specific courses for the program include Fundamentals of Animation, Experimental Animation, 3D Animation, Technology of Digital Animation, Directing the Fiction Film, Principles of Sound Design, and Topics in Film/Media Studies. Students will also participate in several production studios, each worth three credits.
