Founded in 1889, University of Idaho (U of I) serves more than 12,000 students enrolled in more than 300 degree programs across 10 colleges and four campuses in Moscow, Boise, Coeur D’Alene, and Idaho Falls. The College of Art and Architecture offers a BS in Virtual Technology + Design that merges technology with the science of art and design, says the school. Students in the interdisciplinary program will create virtual technologies for animated films, gaming, simulations, business and education, and other applications.
The program, which covers animation, 3D modeling, computer science, art and design, world building, storytelling, spatial design, four-dimensional design, and character design, features design studios and hands-on projects that provide opportunities to practice building virtual worlds for real clients. In addition to animator, the BS in Virtual Technology + Design prepares students for careers in game design, world building (entertainment, non-entertainment, education, simulation) and visualization.
Other program highlights include a collaborative environment where students work with peers and professionals to address design issues, access to a dozen organizations and clubs, an established portfolio of design work, and internship opportunities with private firms, public agencies, community centers, and more.
