Colleges obtain and lose accreditation so often that the number of schools per state tends to fluctuate. According to the Institute of Education Sciences (IES), as of July 2012, the State of South Dakota was home to 25 Title IV degree-granting institutions. This is one of the smallest collections of colleges on the U.S. The good news is, the State of South Dakota values quality over quantity, so you will find some of the best schools in the nation within the borders of scenic Mount Rushmore State.
To become a Title IV school, a school must (1) have accreditation recognized by the U.S. Department of Education, (2) grant an associate's degree or higher, (3) offer a program of at least 300 clock hours in length, (4) be in business for at least 2 years, and (5) sign a participation agreement with the Department. Several South Dakota Title IV’s offer excellent graphic design programs at a manageable cost. Even schools that are seemingly out of reach for students with financial need are accessible thanks to Title IV status. All Title IV schools are eligible for federal financial aid programs.
