Scope of Program:
Electronic Arts majors at Rutgers' Camden campus may choose either the Computer Animation or Graphic Design concentration. Students in both concentrations take foundation courses in visual fundamentals, 3D foundations, drawing, computer graphics, art history, computer art and design for the World Wide Web. Computer Animation students focus on classical animation, character animation, animation production and post-production, computer animation and multimedia. Graphic Design students concentrate on typography, layout, computer animation and design and computer multimedia. Students in both concentrations create a thesis exhibition.
Graphic Design students at the Newark campus begin their studies with foundation courses in design fundamentals, drawing, figure drawing, painting and art history. They then focus on history of design, photography, printmaking, layout, packaging design, publication design, computers in graphic design, illustration, motion design and interactive design. Students complete two senior studio seminars.
M. F. A. candidates at the New Brunswick campus complete an interdisciplinary program in studio arts, in which they may concentrate on electronic/multimedia arts. Students complete coursework in photo image, video/media workshop and events and performance. Students must pass a first year review and create a thesis and M. F. A. exhibition. Internships are available.
Applicants to the B. A., B. F. A. and M. F. A. Art programs must submit a portfolio. Merit scholarships are available, as are need-based scholarships. New Jersey students who can demonstrate financial need and are first-generation four year college students may be eligible for New Jersey Educational Opportunity Fund grants.
