Scope of Program:
Ringling College of Art and Design's Computer Animation program was rated first in North America two years in a row by 3D World magazine. Ringling students begin their studies with the Core Studio program, which emphasizes studio skills and techniques, including drawing, color and design as well as introductory coursework in the student's major. Computer Animation students concentrate on 3D design, traditional and computer animation, history of animation, concept development, pre-production animation and drawing for animators. Game Art and Design students focus on communication design, 3D design, traditional animation, 3D for games, drawing for animators and game design. A Game Thesis project is required. Graphic and Interactive Communication students take courses in art history, image and color, web development, sequential design, typography, new media and graphic design. Students create a portfolio and may participate in an internship.
Coursework for Illustration students includes communication design, 3D design, drawing, figure illustration, illustration media, painting, computer illustration and advanced illustration. Students create a portfolio during their senior year. Motion Design students study drawing, image and color, 3D design, animation techniques, concept development, light and sound and designing with typography. Motion Design students create a portfolio and participate in a senior project.
Ringling College of Art and Design accepts the Common Application. A portfolio is required as part of the application process. Merit and need-based scholarships are available for new and continuing students. Study abroad programs are available. (Note: The Computer Animation and Game Art and Design programs were closed to admissions for the 2011 – 2012 school year.)
