Scope of Program:
New Media students in Penn State's B. F. A. program concentrate on ideas as visual images, ideas as objects, art history, computer graphics, web design, drawing, figure drawing, digital art and design criticism, video art, time-based media, computer 3D modeling, game art and multimedia publication. Students must pass several portfolio reviews during their course of study.
Integrative Arts students focus on performing arts, digital audio, integrating music and animation, mass media arts, history of electroacoustic music and popular arts in America. Students create their own academic plan with the help of an advisor.
Graphic Design students at Penn State complete coursework in design studio, thinking creatively, typography, photography and graphic design studio. All students must pass a portfolio review after the fourth semester of study in order to continue in the major. Accepted students continue with courses in design photography, applied communication, package design, digital technology, time and sequence and information design. All students complete an internship.
Interdisciplinary Digital Studio students take courses in ideas as images, ideas as objects, digital art and design criticism, history of digital art, 3D computer model rendering and animation, video art, time-based media, game art, physical computing, photography studio and new media studio.
Merit and need-based scholarships are available. Pennsylvania residents are encouraged to apply for state-sponsored grants and scholarships.
