Scope of Program:
B. F. A candidates at Cornell complete foundation coursework in drawing, studio art, visual studies, art history, theory and criticism and art seminar. They have the option to study in New York City and/or Rome, Italy for one semester. Digital Media students focus on time-based art, interactive digital media, mobile media and participatory culture, digital video and sound and art in the age of networks. All students create a thesis project.
Cornell students in the Art, Computer Science, Dance, Film, Music and Psychology programs may elect to complete the Undergraduate Concentration in Computing in the Arts. This program includes coursework in digital media and art related to the student's major. Art students focus on computer game design, computer animation, mobile media and advanced animation, while Computer Science students concentrate on visual imaging, object-oriented programming, artificial intelligence, game design, animation and computer graphics. Students may also complete a minor in Game Design.
B. F. A. candidates may complete a combined B. A. or B. S. and B. F. A. program in five years to earn dual degrees. Cornell strongly recommends that all students purchase a laptop computer. A portfolio is required with the application to the B. F. A. program. Merit and need-based scholarships are available. Students should expect to be assessed course-specific fees in the B. F. A. program.
