Scope of Program:
Columbia College Chicago prides itself on its wide array of media and arts courses. Art and Design students take courses in art history, drawing, 2D and 3D design, typography, photography, commercial design, applied drawing and contemporary issues. Film and Video/Animation students concentrate on foundational coursework in moving image arts, moving image production, project development, preproduction and preparation and project development, then specialize in either Traditional or Computer Animation. Game Design students can choose from concentrations in Game Art, Programming, Game Development or Game Sound. All Game Design students participate in a senior capstone course and project after taking four core Game Design courses and several courses in the area of concentration. Graphic Design and Illustration students take a common core of classes in art history, drawing, 2D and 3D design and photography, then move on to specialized courses. Graphic Design students create a portfolio. Interactive Arts and Media students focus on digital image design, media theory and design, programming theory and concepts, authoring interactive media, advanced interfaces, web animation, 2D imaging, 3D composition and a team practicum
Animation students must purchase a Dell XPS 17 laptop computer. Applicants to the B. F. A. program in Interactive Arts and Media must request admission to the program after they have completed 60 credit hours of study. Scholarships are available.
