What does it take to become a “best” animation school? Is it cost? Location? Job placement services? Well, it really depends on the ranking agency. Many reputable college ranking agencies use a select group of factors to determine which programs deserve to be on the “best” list. These factors typically relate to the number of program offerings, graduation and retention rates, peer assessment, faculty resources (student-teacher ratio), financial resources, and student selectivity. A school with a very selective admissions process will likely rank higher than a school with a relaxed admissions process, or a school with large classes will likely rank lower than a school with small class sizes.
In the state of Georgia, the animation programs come in all shapes and sizes and while most are offered at great schools, not all can make the “best” list. There are now more than 130 accredited colleges and universities in the state of Georgia and because the animation industry continues to grow, many of these schools offer animation programs. They can be found in major cities such as Atlanta and Savannah, but aspiring animators shouldn’t discount smaller cities such as Carrollton and Kennesaw.
Just a few of Georgia’s best animation school programs include Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) and the University of Georgia in Athens.
